You can have up to four characters in your party. In light of the previous point, you'll want to make sure you have a variety of damage types on hand. (The obvious example is undead healing from poison damage.) Especially since enemies with over 100% resistance to a damage type will actually heal from being attacked with that damage type. It will save you a ton of time and bother compared to trail-and-error. (Doing so is a free action in combat.) Most of the stats won't help you much, but the really important ones are the damage resistances.

It allows you to examine enemies and see their stats. At least one of you needs to get a couple of points in the lore skill. The combat gets steadily worse the further the game goes. It will frontload a fucking ton of boring dialogue on you, but the early combat areas are the most fun because half the mechanics haven't been scaled into irrelevance yet. The starting area is both the best and worst part of the game. (They're items, you'll know them when you see them.) You can cheese a lot of the puzzles with them. Remember to use the teleporter pyramids. Surfaces and clouds (fire, poison, ice etc) can hurt a lot in the early game but they don't scale so they're completely irrelevant later on. Fights are decided by who can dish the most raw damage. Status effects are unreliable and become more so as the game goes on. Nor does it require you to have played the first game. It's better in literally every single way. Honestly, my biggest tip would be to get the sequel instead.
